Read Books

A couple of years ago, I heard of a journalist setting himself a goal to read one book every week for a whole year. I thought that was very ambitious but nevertheless a great motivation to read more (less computer/phone screen time, we need it!). I modified this goal for myself and vowed to read…

This past winter …

The winter was another good one! LOTS and lots of snow, both around Kelowna (Big White ski area, Nordic xc ski area) and in the Rockies (two trips to Wheeler Hut, one to Asulkan Hut). I do not miss the resort/downhill skiing at all, skinning uphill and earning the powder turns is just too much…

Finally Africa …

It has been way too long in the making, and now that I am here I can’t imagine not having Africa in my life in one way or another. Half way through my time in Malawi, I am trying to figure out how to come back. There will be more posts with stories and pictures…

Summer 2017

White World

Wow, it has been a very white and cold winter so far! I’m not complaining … I know I’m in the minority here in Kelowna where most people complain about snow, go south for the winter or otherwise “hang on” until the spring comes. I, on the other hand, love snow. I get excited about…

Finally the snow is back …

It just doesn’t get much better than being at 2000m, in the sunshine, with lots of powder in all directions. As much as I love skate skiing for the workout and the social aspect, backcountry skiing is pretty special and always puts a smile on my face. No crowds, no noise, just peaceful white. On…
