Yesterday (Halloween!) I raced my first trail race! Even though I train exclusively on trails for the running portion of my triathlons, I have never actually competed in a XC race. So yesterday I participated in the Kal Park Race in Vernon, BC (the last race of the Interior Running Association series). We started in a bit of a drizzle but it soon cleared and the scenery really was beautiful (especially the trees in fall colors!). There were quite a few costumes on the trail which made the run even more entertaining (you can’t help but smile when a witch passes you!). The 9.5km race took me 51min – I figure not too bad for my first ever xc race.
I was surprised how fast these guys can sprint on the trails – I usually enjoy my time out with the dog and friends, exploring the trails in Myra Bellevue Park. This was different but also enjoyable.
With that, the 2010 race season is officially over! We are still swimming in the lake but will probably have to start pool training soon (staring at that dreaded blue line!). And I am determined to figure out how to use my rollers this winter, without “helpers”. Any suggestions???
